Our Internal Mahabharata
There are two tendencies in man’s conscience which are called Divine & devilish. Continuous struggle always goes on between them. The Mahabharata mentioned in the Geeta & in which Arjuna has been made to fight is in reality a spiritual war. Devilish tendencies are very powerful. In the form of kauravas, their number is very large. Their army also is large. Pandavas are only five. Their helpers and soldiers also are fewer. Even then, the lord thought war as necessary and told Arjuna that there was no alternative to fighting. The very existence of Divine & satvik tendencies will be in danger without annihilation of devilish & tamsik tendencies. Therefore it was necessary to fight. Arjuna at first hesitated form entering the fray, but when the Lord declared the war to be inevitable, he had to get ready to fight. Historians call this war as Mahabharata. In the spiritual language, it is called the battle of Sadhana.
Our internal mind is the Dharmakshetra & Kurukshetra in which Mahabharata goes on continuously. Devil is deceitful & illusive. The devil of ‘tomogun’ keeps us entangled in illusion. It throws its net by enticing us towards sense pleasures & binds our life in its noose of illusion. This devil has so many other weapons also by means of which it succeeds in causing downfall of life by controlling it. Passion, anger; greed. illusion. envy & pride are six hypnotising weapons, which bind life by making it swoon. This swoon is such that even desire to come out of it is not there and man wants to remain in that state only.
Welfare of the soul cannot be achieved by remaining in the state in which numberless hypnotised people keep on lying in bondage. There is no way to welfare without cutting asunder this bondage. If this dark state is not stopped, eliminated or reformed, its frightfulness & dreadfulness will go on increasing day by day and occasion of hellish afflictions will go on increasing. Most people of the world go on bearing various kinds of pains by remaining in this state. They go on whining and crying while remaining in bondage of trans migration. If they do not give up this path, they have to keep on swinging in the swing of sin, downfall & affliction.
The call of the soul is ‘lead me from darkness to light’. The soul desires to go to light from darkness. Ignorance is darkness & truth is light. An attempt to adopt this practice is Sadhana. Sadhana has been taken as an unavoidable necessity of life. Evil tendencies of ignorance can be got rid of through this method only. This alone is the path to true peace & progress.
