श्रम बड़ा है या बुद्धि ? इस विषय पर दो स्नातकों में विवाद चल पड़ा। दोनों अपने-अपने दावे की पुष्टि में दृष्टान्त होते रहे थे पर अन्तिम निर्णय न कर पा रहे थे। दीर्घतमा ने दोनों को पास बुलाया और कहा-”वत्स! अब और बुद्धि की सार्थकता पास-पास रहने में ही दोनों में से कोई भी न बड़ा है, न छोटा दोनों का महत्व समान है।
